Frequently asked questions

▸What is landed cost?

Landed cost is the full cost of getting imported goods into your warehouse: the price paid to the supplier plus freight, insurance, customs duty, clearing (CHA) charges, port and shipping line charges, and inland transport. Dividing it by the number of units gives the true cost per unit to price against.

▸Should IGST be part of landed cost?

If you are GST-registered, IGST paid at customs normally comes back as input tax credit, so it is not a real cost and is left out. If you are not registered, or can't use the credit, include it.

▸Which charges do importers most often forget?

Shipping line delivery order and container charges, CFS or terminal handling, detention and demurrage if clearance is delayed, testing and certification (BIS, FSSAI and similar), and bank charges on the remittance.

▸How can I reduce landed cost?

Check whether an FTA gives a lower duty rate for your origin country, make sure the HS code is correct, file the Bill of Entry early to avoid demurrage, and compare CHA and freight quotes. EximSetu's AI report shows FTA savings for your product.
